An Open Letter from the HR Department (Me) to Staff

December 30th, 2009

Send to a Friend

blog-post-pic2I know it’s been a tough year around here. Lower bonuses, lay-offs, and let’s not forget about that softball   incident  (actually, I think we should-I had nightmares for days about what happened to that chicken…). But a new year is fast approaching and hopefully a fresh start for all of us as well. So, in the spirit of the season (and lots of prompting from the CEO) I would like to share with you, dear staff, my resolutions for the 2010. I hope they reflect your needs and prompt you to try getting your own lives in order also.

Have a wonderful holiday. Really.

My New Year’s Resolutions
1. I will try not to roll my eyes when you come to me with a complaint about a co-worker.
2. I will try not to scare you too badly when I ask you to come into my office.
3. I will try not to make this year’s employee handbook even more restrictive than last year’s. Even I think 200 pages is excessive.
4. I will try to call you by your 1st name as a gesture of camaraderie. What is your 1st name, by the way?
5. I will try to pretend that you’re worth training, developing, and (after you given me more than your fair share of blood, sweat and tears) promoting. No guarantees on that one though.
6. I will try to budget more funds for decent merit increases this year. This will mean, however, that the company will be renting out the employee cafeteria as a youth hostel to pay for this. It’s for the greater good.

And finally, I will try to smile more. Really.
